Nick Craddock is one of the UK’s most respected DJs, having been active since the late 90s. He grew up in the North of England, where he was first exposed to some of the country’s seminal techno nights. For almost 20 years, he’s mixed his way through various scenes and styles, always following his own path.
In 2000 he moved to London and immersed himself in the club scene, taking a job as a music PR for labels such as Tresor, Force Inc and Mille Plateaux. As his DJ profile developed, he scored early gigs at Plastic People and Fabric and held a number of DJ residencies throughout the 2000s. Most significantly, Nick connected with Lakuti and Portable’s well-loved Süd Electronic parties in 2003 and became a resident alongside Lakuti and Marco Shuttle – remaining a regular fixture at their parties until the demise of Süd in November 2011.
Public praise and high profile namechecks brought increased attention and, as general appreciation for the craft of DJing enjoyed a renaissance, Nick began to establish wider recognition among the ranks – finding a place in FACT Magazine’s ‘100 underrated DJs who deserve more shine’ in 2014.
That same year, Nick was invited to join Ben UFO on the Hessle Audio Rinse FM show, and played alongside Ben and Tama Sumo in a joyous B2B2B session at London’s Village Underground. In the years that followed, he would go on to play at Hessle’s Fabric residency, play B2B with Ben UFO at Glasgow’s Sub Club, and appear at Leeds’ Wire club for Pearson Sound’s vinyl-only Acetate night.
Some other key dates in recent years include a Boiler Room session with Karenn, Dommune in Tokyo, Bloc Festival, shows at Black Atlantic and Make Me in London, Twisted Pepper in Dublin, and an increasing number of European gigs.
Alongside the club shows, he’s been a regular fixture on the radio, appearing regularly on NTS and Rinse FM, and hosting his own monthly radio shows on KMAH and Radar.
He’s also amassed an impressive number of recorded mixes, having contributed podcasts to: FACT, Smoke Machine, Electronic Explorations, Fabric, Sonotown, SeekSickSound, Butter Side Up and more. Three of his mixes have been picked up by Resident Advisor for their ‘Mix of the Day’ slot. He also compiled and mixed a cassette release for the Paris-based Collapsing Market crew in 2015.
In late 2014, Nick founded Gateway To Zen, a fresh concept for London’s techno scene, which went on to host artists such as Marco Shuttle, John Heckle, Pariah and the Hessle Audio trio in intimate surroundings.
In 2016, Nick relocated to Portugal, making Lisbon his base and integrating himself into the thriving local club scene. He began a monthly show on fast-rising Rádio Quântica and in February 2017 played at the prestigious Lux-Fragil club. He DJs regularly at many of the more underground parties within the city, and remains a fixture on other European line-ups.
